Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has often driven a deep wedge within the conservative movement, but today many in that movment were saddened at the news that he is discontinuing his brain cancer treatments, as ABC News has confirmed to be the case.
The RINO senator is suffering from aggressive glioblastoma “and the prognosis was serious,” his family had admitted last year in a health statement. Sadly, it seems that there is no apparent benefit to continuing to fight the illness and the end is likely near for Mr. McCain.
“In the year since [his diagnosis], John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of [sic] disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict,” his family has said. “With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”
They added, “Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers. God bless and thank you all.”
Cindy McCain, the Arizona senator’s wife, also thanked the public and the medical staff which worked tirelessly to try and cure her husband.
Unfortunately, it seems to not be in the cards.
A recent photo of John McCain shows not only the telling surgical scar over his left eye, but also a very fail looking man who has clearly seen a terrible struggle during the last year.
Beyond that, McCain has a history of opposing the prudent ideas of Mr. Trump as well as some questions about him being a “songbird” while in Vietnam.
Just the same, the man also served his state for a very long time, and even though many of his views on illegal immigration helped to earn him the nickname “the Maverick” (since he sided so often with Democrats), he was quite dedicated to his constituents.
Therefore, even with his many faults, the nation looks towards Arizona with a tear in their eye and a heavy heart. It seems that an American political icon is soon to be around any longer.
I love my husband with all of my heart. God bless everyone who has cared for my husband along this journey. pic.twitter.com/v27sEbboii
