Liberal Mayor Sues 5 Biggest, Blaming Bogus Science For City’s Catastrophe

Mayor Bill de Blasio is looking to make Hurricane Sandy pay off for the city.

New York City’s liberal Mayor Bill de Blasio is at it again. This time he is suing the country’s five biggest oil companies. Clearly, the Democrat has bought the bogus science of global warming hook, line, and sinker. The mayor’s logic goes something like this;

The oil companies polluted the earth which is causing global warming. Climate change led to superstorm Hurricane Sandy and the resulting catastrophe in the city. Therefore, the oil companies should pay to upgrade NYC’s storm resiliency.

The lawsuit names BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Royal Dutch Shell. It states;

“The city seeks to shift the costs of protecting the city from climate change impacts back onto the companies that have done nearly all they could to create this existential threat.”

A far more likely explanation is that de Blasio needs money and these companies have it. His focus has been on illegal immigrants, protecting criminals, and arguing with President Trump. Why waste money on preparing for storms when he can just blame rich oil businesses?

The five companies, according to the court papers, have produced more than “11% of the world’s carbon and methane pollution from industrial sources since the dawn of the industrial revolution.”

The mayor has also joined the push for his city’s pension funds to divest from any fossil fuel companies. This would occur over the next five years and is also supported by Public Advocate Letitia James and Comptroller Scott Stringer.

There is no doubt that Sandy was an extreme detriment to the state of New York. It killed 53 people and has cost more than $19 billion. In addition to repairs, the city was forced to strengthen their storm preparations which just costs even more.

New York has more residents living in high-risk flood zones than any other city. This is vital information when preparing for more storms such as Sandy. That does not mean, however, that corrupt liberals like de Blasio can expect someone else to foot the bill.

He needs to refocus his priorities and be held accountable for his city instead of placing the blame on everyone else.
