Syria has long been an area that many feel that America should simply withdraw from. Others say that to do so will create a haven for ISIS and Daesh terrorists and that progress is being made. Which of these two schools of thought is actually the truth is anyone’s guess.
Now the Associated Press is reporting that the U.S. “shot down a Syrian Air Force fighter jet that bombed local forces aligned with the Americans in the fight against Islamic State militants.” This could be a sign that things are going from bad to worse in the region.
Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said that America had not shot down any Syrian aircraft until the event last Sunday. The (so-called) moderate forces that the U.S. has chosen to back were promised that they would be protected from Syrian aggression, something that their leader, Assad, knew fully before engaging in the action.
Some have questioned if Assad was the one who gave the green light, though there seems to be no other culprit. It seems that America’s “red line” has been tested.
U.S. led coalition headquarters in Iraq confirmed also that “a U.S. F-18 Super Hornet shot down a Syrian government SU-22” following Syria’s decision to drop “bombs near the U.S. partner forces” aka “the Syrian Democratic Forces.”
The shootdown, which happened near Tabqa, is a town that has seen an increase in Daesh terrorists, so it appears that Assad has started showing open support for ISIS.
This could be very problematic since it does a morbidly good job of proving most Democrats and Republicans wrong.
Terrorists began to infiltrate an area near Raqqa which prompted what the U.S. military called a “collective self-defense” from who the AP called “partner forces” and that the U.S. did NOT “seek a fight with the Syrian government or its Russian supporters.”
In this regard, the promise made to Putin from President Trump remains intact. Still, the Kremlin has warned the U.S. against any further actions along these lines.
Something that is not addressed in the article is that if Assad didn’t allow this to happen, then he has lost control of his own forces, which also does not help his case any.
The Pentagon issued a statement saying that “pro-Syrian regime forces attacked the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces-held town of Ja’Din, south of Tabqah in northern Syria,” so it is certainly those who support the current regime who.
This assault wounded and sent fleeing from the town SDF fighters, it is reported, as well. Russia was called in following the attack “to de-escalate the situation and stop the firing,” the statement says.
It was after Russia did this that “Syrian SU-22 dropped bombs” close to SDF fighters and “Syrian SU-22 dropped bombs” and were taken out of the sky by a “U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet.”
As this mess unfolds, it is clear that history is repeating itself yet again. Islamists are killing Islamists in the name of Islam.
It is repeating in the fact that America is stranded in the middle of it all, too. At some point, it can be imagined that Trump will remove our forces from this whole region if this is all of the progress that can be made.
